On March 17, 2026, the Uganda Ministry of Health, in collaboration with Makerere University and the University of Liverpool, hosted a dissemination event that showcased groundbreaking results from the APT-Sepsis program. This initiative, implemented across health facilities in Uganda and Malawi, has achieved remarkable success in combating maternal sepsis.

Health experts described the results as a major milestone in maternal healthcare. They highlighted the critical role of:

  • Training and Mentorship: Empowering healthcare workers with the skills and knowledge to implement best practices.

  • Commitment from Ministries of Health: Ensuring sustained impact through policy support and resource allocation.

The programme’s strong evidence base now paves the way for wider adoption across the region. As officials look ahead, they remain optimistic that these proven strategies will help make preventable maternal deaths a thing of the past— showing that the simplest actions have the power to save lives.
