APT-Sepsis - The journey, Uganda
The video contains a brief yet impactful visit to hospitals in the West Nile district of Uganda. The active prevention and treatment of maternal sepsis program focuses on behavioural change interventions at various healthcare facilities, ranging from regional referral hospitals to level four health centres. The visit emphasized a collaborative, learning approach, where teams shared best practices and addressed challenges together.
The team confronted real-world barriers to maternal care, such as poor road conditions and flooding, gaining firsthand insight into the difficult journeys patients endure to receive timely and effective treatment during pregnancy and the postnatal period. The trip also celebrated the achievements of healthcare workers. Ultimately, the visit concluded with a focus on how to sustain and scale the behavioural changes identified, ensuring ongoing progress toward reducing maternal mortality through the study.
