Champions are the driving force behind the APT-Sepsis programme. Dedicated individuals within the health system, midwives, clinicians, managers, and support staff, were carefully selected by local leadership using the APT-Sepsis Champion criteria. What sets them apart is their boundless enthusiasm and commitment to keeping maternal infection firmly on the agenda.
Throughout the delivery of the Active Prevention and Treatment of maternal Sepsis programme, it was the Champions who truly made the difference. Their presence, passion, and persistence helped embed change. They consistently reminded, encouraged, and supported their colleagues, engaging staff in the process and welcoming and training new team members
Unlike external supervisors, Champions are based in the facility and understand the local context. They are respected by peers, and able to influence and inspire staff to change behavior.
During training, Champions were excited to have been trusted with the task of leading APT Sepsis activities at their facility eager to lead APT-Sepsis activities and improve care for women, as the components responded to their direct needs as a hospital. Many champions enjoyed the practical sessions and videos during the training.
Thanks to these Champions, the APT-Sepsis programme continues to thrive driven by people who care deeply and go the extra mile every day.
